Through its needs assessment process, the Social Service Advisory Board (SSAB) has identified food, shelter, health, safety, and crisis resolution as the needs it will address through the City of Salem funding process. It does this through a biennial request for proposal process that asks local non-profit agencies to apply for funds to alleviate these problems in the community. Every year, the SSAB prepares a comprehensive budgetary packet for the Budget Committee and City Council to assist in the budgeting process.
The Salem Social Service Advisory Board recognizes that, as the governmental group closest to the unique social service needs of the city of Salem, we hold a special ability and responsibility to identify areas in which coordination between governmental agencies and community organizations can provide the best, most efficient use of all available resources.
