Construction at River Road Park

Beginning January 8, 2007, River Road Park at 3045 River Road North will be closed for construction of the River Road Wet Weather Treatment Facility. This closure is scheduled to last through October 2008. Major improvements to the park will also be completed during this period.

The Wet Weather Treatment Facility project is part of Salem’s plan to comply with a Mutual Agreement and Order (MAO) by the Department of Environmental Quality in 1998 to reduce pollution in the Willamette River by eliminating sewer overflows that currently enter the river untreated during heavy winter storms. These improvements are required to be in effect on or before January 1, 2010.

Improvements to the park will include new playground equipment, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, restrooms, and picnic areas.

Due to the construction activities, the normal flow of traffic within the vicinity of the project site may be periodically affected. Notification will be given for upcoming periods of disruption on River Road North, and efforts will be made to complete work in the right-of-way as quickly and safely as possible.
