How Neighborhood Associations Participate

SNI is a membership corporation. Member delegates from neighborhood associations (NAs) elect a Board of Directors to conduct the day-to-day business of the corporation. Although the Board may make recommendations to the members for approval, daily business is determined by the neighborhood associations' needs.

The members suggest the general types of services and develop action plans for what they would like to receive, and the Board of Directors seek methods to provide those services.

Helping Neighborhood Associations

These are just some of the possible ways SNI can use its tax-exempt status to help neighborhood associations:

  • Develop a non-profit structure ot support fund raising activities for member neighborhood associations.
  • Conduct or sponsor grant-writing and management seminars and training for member neighborhood associations.
  • Seek funding to use technology to better communicate city issues to members of neighborhood associations.
  • Partner with other agencies to enhance community involvement through education and the exchange of information.
  • Serve as a conduit to link other "neighborhood-friendly" programs with Salem's neighborhood associations, such as Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 (KKAD25).
  • Bring together the knowledge and experience of all member neighborhood associations to assist one another in solving problems and addressing concerns with City staff.
  • Provide receipts for a way to give tax deductions for donations to NA fund raisers.
  • Give technical assistance for NA fund raising efforts.
  • Sponsor workshops in grant writing techniques.
