I.C.E - In Case of Emergency

Emergency

Almost everyone has a cell phone and we know that in an emergency you call 9-1-1.  But what if the emergency is you and you are unable to share life saving information with emergency responders because you are unconscious. Now there is a solution. Salem Fire Fighters want to encourage the community to use a new cell phone program called I.C.E.  I.C.E stands for “In Case of Emergency” and is designed so that individuals will utilize their cell phones to record an emergency contact name and number under the name designation “I.C.E” in the address book on their phones.   It is the goal that the Emergency Contact would not only be the individual an emergency responder would contact, but that they would also have medical history on the patient so that they could provide emergency responders with valuable information necessary in case you are unconscious or unresponsive.

The program was conceived by a paramedic in England in the wake of the deadly London train bombings and is designed to help emergency responders be able to quickly obtain necessary medical information.
