Sewing
Our group meets every Thursday morning and consists of four ladies from ages 65 to 90. While we sew, we visit, and it is very interesting to learn what each has experienced in life and why we like to volunteer our time to sewing. We make big bibs, lap robes, small pillows for nursing homes, and book bags and hand puppets for schools. We appreciate all the materials donated for these projects, and if we can't use them, we donate to others who can.

Have you ever wondered about the tiny bodies and great big heads of cartoon characters? Or why they just stand there for a second looking down before they fall off a cliff?
Exploration of cartoon types and personalities with an emphasis on what distinguishes them, along with opportunities to develop your own drawing technique and style. No student draws better nor worse than another; rather, each student simply draws differently because cartooning concepts are abstract--no one can be wrong! You'll also make up your own characters and apply them in making your own comic strip. Bring 8 1/2x11 sketch pad of 50 sheets, pencil, and eraser. Call for day and time. Cost: $40/five sessions.

For anyone who has wondered how Alfred Hitchcock made that nightmarish dizzying staircase shot in "Vertigo" and what the shot is called, or how Rod Taylor opened an invisible door in "The Birds", or how a camera could pass through a solid table in a single, uninterrupted shot in "Citizen Caine", this class is for you.
You will learn about filmmaking techniques such as shots, angles, editing, and framing composition. Styles in directing will be discussed, and opportunities to identify those styles will be provided. Classes will include viewing movies followed by group discussion. Cost: $60/five sessions.
