Recreation Programs


Soccer drills for little onesRecreation Management Services includes recreation and leisure services in the areas of youth sports, aquatic programs, and neighborhood-based camps and classes. See the Resource Guide (pdf) for details about programs being offered right now.

Youth Sports Programs are offered year-round for boys and girls, grades K-8. Programs include

  • Fall Youth Soccer (September-November)
  • Spring Youth Soccer (March-May)
  • Flag Football  (June-July)
  • Summer sports programs, camps, and classes
  • Tennis competitions and classes (summer)

In addition, other neighborhood recreation programs may offered for participants of all ages, at various times during the year.

 

 

Saturday Youth Sport Program

The Saturday Youth Sport Program, established in 1976, provides instruction and league play for boys and girls, grades K-8. Parent-Tot classes are offered for non-school age children and their parents. The purpose of the Saturday Youth Sports Program is to provide recreation opportunities for school-aged children and to involve the Salem community in a volunteer program of leadership in youth sport activities.

The goals of the Saturday Youth Sports Program include, but are not limited to:

  • Build self confidence and personal image.
  • Learn and improve sport skills.
  • Make new friends.
  • Learn teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Improve physical fitness.
  • Explore physical abilities and limitations.
  • Learn realistic and attainable goals.
  • Have fun!
  • Involve parents in their child's athletic endeavors

Volunteer Coaches Clinics are seasonal-specific clinics that are held prior to the start of each sports season. The purpose of the volunteer clinic is to provide volunteers with information on risk management, volunteer responsibilities, organizing practices, skill building, injury prevention, youth sports psychology, and program rules and regulations. Parents are encouraged to attend the clinic.

 

Pool Information

The aquatics program includes information on swimming classes and other programs, as well as information on renting the pool facilities.

Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities exist for individuals to assist in the following Community Resources program areas:

  • Summer Programs
  • Office Work
  • Fall Soccer Coach
  • Spring Soccer Coach
  • POWER Program
  • Flag football

Volunteer candidates will be required to complete a Volunteer Application/Agreement. A criminal background check is required prior to volunteer service. Individuals desiring to volunteer may call or visit the City of Salem Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department.
