Mayor Janet Taylor took office on January 4, 2003, and was recently elected to a third term, which will begin on January 2, 2007. She has lived in Salem for 50 years, attending North Salem High School and Chemeketa Community College. She obtained her private pilot license in 1981. Mayor Taylor and her husband established Taylor Metal Products in 1985, a metal roofing manufacturing company.

She has served as past chair of her neighborhood association, the Strategic Economic Development Corporation, Vice President of the Salem Chamber of Commerce, and is an active member of the Rotary and City Club. Mayor Taylor also established a downtown revitalization task force, served on City study groups for a new Willamette River Bridge location, a new conference center, and participated in Salem Futures for seven years.
